Our story
Our company, Dunavet, started its operation in 1992 as a local distributor of veterinary medicines in Dunaföldvár. The company after its transformation into a joint-stock company in 1994 remanied family owned. At the time of our rapid development in 1997-99 (new head office building in Dunaföldvár, pharmacy, warehouse, cold storage), veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors had little presence in Hungary. Recognising market demand, we started our import-wholesale activity with the distribution of products of some Spanish manufacturers – already well known in Europe – which continues today with an ever widening range of products and growing market share.
How we work
Our pet pharmacy and the network of 4 sales representatives, we have around 2,000 partners all over the country, where we deliver our products weekly and roundly 8 times and our own fleet of 6 trucks (and courier service).
Today, our customers can choose from approx. 3,500 products (vaccines, veterinary medicines, feed supplements, veterinary tools and instruments, pet food, equipment).
We are exclusive distributors for several world leading pharmaceutical companies (HIPRA, Pharmacosmos, Calier, ECO). In addition to our exclusively distributed products, we offer all the veterinary products available in Hungary.
New investment in Dunaföldvár
Between 2003 and 2005, we have built a new warehouse system (a 3 stages warehouse with shelving on almost 600 m2, automated material handling, a new refrigerated chamber for vaccines) in Dunaföldvár, which meets the EU requirements for the distribution of pharmaceuticals in all expectations. The logistics base is also located here, as well as the service to sub-distributors and animal farms. Retail sales are catered for by a well-equipped veterinary pharmacy with permanent veterinary supervision and expert advice.
Sustainability
In 2011, in the framework of the New Széchenyi Plan, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Hungarian State, we had the opportunity to build a 120-unit solar power system, which will help us to achieve significant cost savings and at the same time greatly reduce local carbon dioxide emissions.
Developments
In 2015, further expansion and modernization of the Dunaföldvár site began, including the construction of a new office building and a new warehouse to meet all needs. To ensure that our deliveries are safe, punctual and fast in the face of increased traffic, our entire fleet of vehicles has been replaced and expanded in 2015.
The largest part of the company’s product structure is still made up of original, generic and proprietary veterinary medicines, with an ever-expanding range. In addition to veterinary products, the distribution of feed supplements makes the supply of the livestock market even more complete. Customer relations are handled by highly qualified veterinary colleagues and agricultural specialists throughout the country.
Services
Our professional services, which include problem-oriented serological profiling and other PCR-based testing of colonies for infectious diseases (OPTIPIG, ENTEROCHECK, PULMORESP and STARTCHECK programs), are recognized by our partners as a competitive advantage.
These tests, carried out by the Spanish laboratory Diagnos, are now an almost indispensable prerequisite for targeted prevention and treatment programs adapted to the colony. Today, our professional services are based on these examinations and the related consulting. The successful cooperation and close relationship with our direct partners, based on a solid professional approach, is reflected in the fact that they account for 70-75% of our turnover.
The wide, high-quality range of our proprietary products and the unique professional services have laid the foundation for the excellent result that by 2015 Dunavet became direct supplier of almost all major groups of companies involved in livestock production in Hungary.

From the very beginning, our company has focused primarily on the supply of farm animals and over the years we have become a major player in the distribution of veterinary medicines in Hungary.
Changing needs and increasing expectations can only be met through continuous development. In this spirit, we are constantly expanding our range of livestock products and services and adapting to the rapidly evolving needs of the companion animal industry. In this area, too, the demands from producers and distributors are increasing, and we are adapting our ever-expanding product range to meet these demands.
